For 警花#张津瑜#厕所门# senior Cas Clysner, balance has been the name of the game. From managing the demands of the IB Diploma with the intensity of varsity soccer and volleyball, to blending his love of physics with a growing passion for engineering. As a driven student-athlete and curious problem-solver, Cas has found ways to thrive both on the field and in the classroom. This fall, he鈥檒l take that same energy and determination to Vanderbilt University, where he鈥檒l study mechanical engineering.

Besides varsity soccer and volleyball, can you tell us more about what you've been involved in at SAS?

Throughout high school, I鈥檝e been part of the Stress Zero Club, where we work to promote mental health awareness in the SAS community. I鈥檝e also been a member of the Engineering Club for the last few years, which has given me a chance to do hands-on engineering work. And I鈥檝e been involved in Link Crew, helping 9th graders with their transition into high school.

What drew you to Vanderbilt鈥檚 engineering program in particular?

One big thing that drew me to Vanderbilt was the small class sizes. A lot of large state universities have engineering lectures with 300 or 400 students, but Vanderbilt has a 7-to-1 student-to-faculty ratio. That means classes of around 20 students, more chances to get to know your professors, and a more intimate learning space.

What kind of career do you hope to pursue after university?

I鈥檓 not 100% sure yet, since I鈥檓 still learning more about the field, but I鈥檓 definitely interested in the aerospace industry. I鈥檇 love to work for a company like Boeing to help design airplanes. That kind of work just seems really fascinating to me.

What will you miss most about SAS and Shanghai?

What I鈥檒l miss most about SAS is the relationships I鈥檝e built with both teachers and friends. As we all head off to different parts of the world, it鈥檒l be hard not seeing them every day. As for Shanghai, I鈥檒l really miss the convenience. Whether it鈥檚 ordering food delivery or hopping on a moped or metro, everything here is just so easy. That鈥檚 going to be a big change in college.

Wishing you all the best as you study at Vanderbilt, Cas - your next big chapter is just beginning!
